Introduction: I'm going to review the 2 colors at one time, rather than do 2 separate reviews. Other than color the 2 cars are identical.
These are 2 of UT's most popular Porsche models, much more so than UT's Base-level Boxsters because the "S" models come with fat, low-profile tires mounted on Porsche's Turbo-look rims, with titanium-accent side air intakes, front grill inserts, interior enhancements and (most importantly!) red "Porsche" brake calipers.
I believe that Maisto was the only other company to do the Boxster, which is surprising given its popularity. UT's "S" versions are far superior to the Maisto Boxster.
Highs: As mentioned above, the "S" version comes with the nicer tires and rims, and the oh-so-sweet red brake calipers. These red brake calipers are even sweeter on the blue car, as they match the red seats. The titanium accents look fantastic, giving the car a much higher-end look than the price on these cars would indicate. Not sure about the base versions, but the "S" models also feature felt-feel carpeting. Interior looks good, with plenty of detail and pleasant textures. Paint quality is superb, both smooth and glossy on the yellow and the blue. Stance is also accurate, something UT does well with all of its Porsche models. Put simply, it looks like a shrunken-down version of the real car. Oh, and did I mention how great the titanium accents look all around? Yeah, I thought so....just mentioning them again for emphasis!
Lows: Because of the engine configuration of the real car, mounted in the middle of the car and underneath, there's not much to look at on the model. Front signal indicator lights are painted-on, not plastic.
Summary: I've read other sites' comments on these cars, UT "S" model Boxsters specifically, and most other reviewers give them lukewarm reviews. Most reviews are 7.5s or 8 out of 10. Frankly, I'm not sure why. While these aren't as nice as Autoart's 996 GT3, they are still great diecasts. I can understand why the base-level UT Boxsters might be considered mediocre, with no carpeting, no brake calipers, etc. But the "S" cars have all of that. And, as far as the Boxster goes at all, they're the only game in town. No other manufacturer has done the car. Autoart is supposed to be coming out with Boxster and Boxster S models, that will feature the new 2003 front-end, but the key question will be whether these cars suffer from the same improperly angled front ends as their new 996 models.
