Highs: Carpeted (felt-like material) interior and trunk, and a nicely detailed interior. Silver metallic paint is smooth, and almost blemish-free. Hood and trunk lid both stay up on their own. Both rear brake light and red side lights, plus door interior reflectors, are actual plastic fixtures rather than stickers (very nice details considering the price point). Accurate 5-spoke rims and black "Corvette" brake calipers. Stance and proportions are dead-on accurate. The real Corvette looks like a sleek, aggressive sportscar...so does UT's diecast. It does the real Corvette justice, at least in terms of capturing the beauty of the car.
Lows: No real lows, or anything to complain about.
Summary: I'm not a huge Corvette fan, but I wanted one in my collection and the UT definitely fits the bill. It's because of models like this, plus the 993 Porsches, that the diecast world will miss UT's products. They had a way of doing some really good models, but still keeping them in the $25 range. UT's Corvettes and Porsches are much better than the products from Maisto and Bburago, for the same money. So if you wanted to include an automaker in your collection, but didn't want to spend $50 on a Kyosho or Autoart, you could check out UT and get something nice for less money. With UT now gone from the industry (Autoart purchased their liquidated assets), the only UTs left are what's sitting on resellers' shelves or what's available on ebay. If you're looking to add a C5 Corvette to your collection, whether budget is an issue or not, I think you'll be happy with UT's diecast.
