Highs: This was a curiosity purchase. Replicarz was having a sale, and these were marked down from $139. I bought it just to see what all the talk was about, as I'd read many glowing reviews and comments from other collectors about CMC models. The best way to describe the CMC Mercedes W154 (and most other CMC Mercedes) is that it's the one model I have that looks like it was built by a Swiss watchmaker. Or a Germany watchmaker, I suppose? It's extremely heavy, incredibly detailed, and the least toy-like of all my diecasts. Frankly, I have no interest in old Mercedes automobiles, or the company's racing history. I own this diecast only because I have an appreciation for great diecast craftsmanship, and this model epitomizes diecast artistry. As another reviewer wrote on Diecast.org (I think that's the site), "the wire wheels alone are worth" the cost. And I love the real fabric seat, and fold-down windscreen.
Lows: I can't really criticize it. Not that it's perfect (no model is), but it would be like criticizing a Patek Philipe timepiece. You either enjoy owning it, or you don't.
Summary: These models are never on sale anywhere, other than the one time I caught them at Replicarz. So you're most likely looking at a $125+ Purchase. As I said above, if the money means less than the enjoyment of owning a great diecast, then don't hesitate. They don't come any finer than this. Just make sure you keep it out of reach of children or pets (no joke), it does have many tiny parts and details, and breaking any of them would probably break your heart.
