Review: Autoart Saleen Mustang Coupe Yellow

Highs: Glossy, smooth paint with no blemishes. Nice interior, good fit and finish. Another often-overlooked detail is the quality of the plastic used for the windshield and rear glass - no scuffs, scratches, and it looks more like glass than most other models I own. It's a minor detail, but you'll appreciate it if you see it. Wheel and brake detail is good also. Car sits right, Autoart has done a great job capturing the mean, aggressive look of the Saleen Mustang.

Lows: Car seems to have too much plastic to actually be called a diecast. Fair amount of "creak and groan" when handling it. Doors fit flush with body, but sit loosely and will come open if car is tilted at all. Engine looks very plasticky, and hood doesn't come up very far or stay open so viewing the engine isn't easy. Car doesn't roll smoothly...seems to vibrate gently through the wheels (I own 2 different Saleens, and both suffer this rolling vibration).

Summary: This model's best feature is it's gorgeous paint job, and the fact that the proportions and stance are right on. But it's not up to the quality level of some of the other Autoarts I own. It's very light, and because of that feels less substantial, but that's a very subjective thing. Some people prefer their models to be lighter rather than heavier. If you can pick it up for under $40, you're doing ok. Any more than that, and you might be disappointed unless you just really want a Saleen in your collection and budget isn't your main concern.
